At St Mary & St Paul’s we have developed a creative and engaging curriculum that enables our children to develop key skills in reading, writing and maths while also helping them to learn about the world around them and develop their skills in a wide range of areas.
Below you can download details of our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, the expectations that we have in reading, writing and maths for children in Key Stages 1 and 2 (Years 1 to 6) and information about the topics that we are following across school this year.
To support our curriculum we use a wide range of resources from many different publishers. These have been carefully chosen because they have the maximum impact on children’s learning. Many of our topics, and some of our science work, is planned using the Cornerstones Curriculum. We have lots of books in school, including well-stocked class libraries; however, we do also use Oxford Reading Tree as our ‘core’ reading scheme. For phonics teaching, we use Read, Write Inc.
One element of Mathematics that can support learning across the subject is Times Tables. In order to improve the ability of the children we have competitions, practice reciting and play games. At home there are plenty of websites that can support this learning including Maths Chase.
